Guess I should begin with a disclaimer. Those who feel very excited by the Idiot trio movie and think it's one of the best bollywood movie ever, please excuse me.
(I know the disclaimer will not work, and many will thrash me for what I will write here)
I wonder when would Bollywood stop selling the South Indian charecters and their accent to the North Indian Hindi ego. There definitely are many better ways to keep the North Indian crowd interested.
Having read a book, it's a very common experience that, you are less likely to enjoy the movie enactment of the same. With me, I would dare to apply this theory in the case of 'five point some one', even though makers of 3 idiots had declared that it's just an adaptation and will not have the same story as the book.
Boman Irani is a talented actor, but I guess Hirani and Chopras just thought of selling the last bits of his role in Munnabhai series again through a new version of the charecter. Poor chap, would be wondering what new mannerism to bring in for the next role he would get as a unreasonable/rough/strict father/teacher/boss in the next movie. Biting the tounge during dialoge delivery was a good try Mr. Irani, I wish you a different role atleast in next life. (It wont be just if I dont mention that I felt his role in 'Don' was definitely an exception and he did more than justice to the role of Vardhman in that movie).
I dont mean to say there was nothing good in the movie. There were many, scattered all through the 3 hours.
Not many chances for the heroine to show some skin, and guess thats what made the men drop their pants at every chance. After all, some skin - if not the male audience, the other half would like it. A BW movie without skin? The recepie cant be complete!
I used to like the subjects Amir khan chose for his movies. And his policy of realistic scenes with no exagerations (but with exceptions like Gajhni). And when he chose five point someone this time, though I felt age was against him, I still thought he would sustain the essence of the book in the movie - simplicity.
Five point someone had 3 friends each with their own good, but seems like Indian movie concept is yet to come to terms with the reality and still thinks that 'all great qualities personified' makes the hero.
(Chances are, if you are reading this and if ur blood is boiling, you cannot understand malayalam. Else, I would have suggested you watch the malayalam movie "Azhakiya Ravanan" for an alternate concept of a hero.)
Its almost 2am here and I have a Project Go-Live in 1 week. If stay on this longer, chances are, I wont reach office in the morning itself :)
If mood/time permits, this idiot will come back with a 2nd part of MAOs about 3 idots.
